Trekking in Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park is possible during all seasons. Hike during the weekend tour in Georgia is classic and enjoyable in the beautiful nature. In any case it will be perfect weekend no matter you start from Kutaisi (you can get there by cheap flights from Europe – wizzair) or from Tbilisi. The distance from both cities is almost the same.

Day 1: Start from Tbilisi - Jvari Monastery - Svetitskhoveli Cathedral - Uplistsikhe - Museum of Stalin
We will start weekend tour in Georgia by visiting Mtskheta - the old capital of Georgia. Our first destination will be Jvari Monastery (6th cent.). Jvari is also very popular because of its magnificent view. From here you will see the beautiful landmark of the confluence of two rivers. Then we will walk the narrow, old architectural style streets of the town. Browse handmade products displayed on small counters. Then we will visit Svetitskhoveli Cathedral - UNESCO World Heritage Site, known as the place of Tomb of Christ Robe.
The next destination will be Uplistsikhe - an ancient rock-hewn town, which contains structures dating from the Early Iron Age to the Late Middle Ages. We will move from the landmarks of Georgian ancient history and visit the Museum of Joseph Stalin, the leader of the Soviet Union, in Gori. After a delicious lunch we will visit Rabat Castle - a castle complex of Asian style in Akhaltsikhe. Recently renovated Castle is the perfect place to take stunning photos in the background of its stunning eastern-styled towers, shining mosque, charming palaces and fountains.

Day 1: Start from Kutaisi - Bagrati Cathedral -Prometheus Cave or Okatse Canyon and Lomina Lake-Akhaltsikhe
We will start weekend tour in Kutaisi, Once the capital of Georgia and one of the largest cities. We will visit Bagrati Cathedral - an important monument of Georgian culture and a symbol of the strength of Georgia. The panoramic view of the whole Kutaisi can be seen from this location.
Then we have two alternatives, to visit the magical Prometheus Cave full with stunning stalactites and stalagmites or take a walk along the cliffs to Okatse Canyon and visit the beautiful Lomina Lake with its small waterfall, which is another less touristic and exotic destination. Afterwards we will drive to Akhaltsikhe.

Day 2: Hike to Lomis Mta Borjomi-kharagauli National Park
(Distance: 12 km Elevation Gain - 1150m, Elevation Loss - 300m)
In the morning we will drive to Borjomi Park Administration visitors center, will register there, take sleeping bags and pads and hike to the Lomis Mta mountain. Hike follows the Likani river gorge, then it quickly starts ascending to a beautiful pine forested area, further up, some of the best views from Meskheti mountain range awaits us. We will sleep in a wooden cottage in the heart of beautiful nature. We need sleeping bags as the beds in the cottage are wooden and basic. However, a warm stove, delicious Georgian wine and vodka will keep you warm. Here we usually prepare hot meals together, drink, talk and create unforgettable memories.

Day 3: Hike to the top of the Lomis Mta and back to Likani - Borjomi Sulfur Pools
(Distance: 17 km Elevation Gain - 550m, Elevation Loss - 1400m down) (In case of strong hangover in the morning, going uphill +250m 2-3km one way is not mandatory)
Our hike will continue to this day, we take the path from the cottages to the top of the mountain from where the beautiful natural landscape can be seen including higher Caucasus and lesser Caucasus summits. After enjoying the view we will descend to Likani, then a short drive to Borjomi Park to swim in the sulfur pools of Borjomi. This water has health benefits, but moreover swimming in the open air pools adds to already incomparable experiences of these two days in Borjomi.

Day 4: Tmogvi Fortress - Vardzia Cave Town - Village Chachkari - Tbilisi/Kutaisi
In the morning we will take a photo at Rabati Castle in Akhatsikhe, then we will drive to the Vardzia area which is historically the most important and interesting gorge. Nature here is also different, rocky and exotic. First we will visit the medieval Tmogvi fortress built on a tall, rocky mountain overlooking the Kur river gorge. From there we will walk to Vardzia where we will visit the cave town where you can find the main church, bell tower, cave dwellings, chapels, pharmacy, and wine cellars - dated to the Bronze Age. The 2hr path goes through village Chachkari which has old dwellings of people in caves, also old remains of vine trees and oldest winepress in caves. There is still population in Chachkari village and they can tell you how their ancestors lived in cave dwellings and made wine. After visiting the ancient sights you can taste delicious local Kvevri (traditional clay pots used to store wine) beer - Amphora in Aspindza.
