Transfer to Etseri - Hike from Etseri to Mazeri
(Distance - 17km, Elevation Gain - 1207m Elevation Loss - 1043m)
Our solo hiker tour in Georgia will begin at Mestia. We will drive to Etseri, the seat of Dadeskheliani princes - rulers of the western, "tame" half of Svaneti. From there, we will head northeast and scale the 2428 meters high Baki pass, from where the first views of Ushba can be seen. We follow the ridge to the south till we reach Meziri Archangel church. Soon afterward, we will descend through a beautiful pine forest to the Mazeri village.
Overnight in a guesthouse, Mazeri.
Hike from Mazeri to Ushba lacier
(Distance - 16.5km, Elevation Gain - 1123m Elevation Loss - 960m)
After breakfast, we will follow the Dolra river deeper into the valley. The route is flat at first, at least till it crosses the bridge close to the border guards camp. Not far beyond roars reach Shdughra waterfall, by our opinion the most impressive waterfall in Georgia. Then we will climb above the waterfalls and cross forests, meadows and finally a moraine to the foot of Ushba glacier - the views of mountains around are unforgettable. We will not hike all the way to Mazeri - cars will pick us up halfway there to save some energy, by a small snack bar with beer and refreshments.
Overnight at Mazeri guesthouse.
Transfer to Latali - Hike to Mkheri
(Distance - 17.2km, Elevation Gain/Loss - 1471m)
In the morning we will drive to Latali, from where we will reach Mkheri church(2473m) on the Svaneti range. We will enjoy the view of Lahili summit and its glaciers from the very top of the mountain. This place can be considered as one of the most beautiful places in Georgia. Views are better in the morning, so we will need to start hiking very early in the morning. There is an annual festival being held at the Mkheri church in July.
After enjoying the views we will return to Latali. Overnight in Latali
Ushguli Jeep Tour
After breakfast we will take a jeep and drive through the valleys of Svaneti, to Ushguli - one of the highest settlements of Europe with a permanent population. Ushguli is the face of Svanetian culture, there you will find Svanetian towers, which are listed in the Unesco world heritage, used as defensive structures, behind which is the highest peak of Georgia, Shkhara(5193m).
(Distance - 7km, Elevation Gain/Loss - 1000m)
There you will start hiking to the Lamaria ridge .You will enjoy the best views to Svaneti ridge, Shkhara summit, Benzengi wall and many other notable peaks of Svaneti part of Caucasus mountain range. At the end of the day you will return to Mestia.
