Keli lake trek starts from the picturesque Truso valley. You will feel yourself on a different planet exploring the Keli volcanic plateau – barren, rocky, but incredibly colorful piece of land lying west of Georgian Military Highway. The terrain is quite difficult. The highlight of the Kelitsadi lake hiking tour is a crossing of two 3400m high mountain passes and a visit to the glacial Kelitsadi lake. Possible to do from June through September. Luggage support is not available. The route is for real trekkers and people who wants to experience backpacking tour in Georgia country.

Tour Itinerary

Your day-by-day adventure plan

Day 1

Tbilisi - Ananuri - Truso valley - Hike to Keli Plateau

(Distance - 8.5km, Elevation Gain - 1028m, Elevation Loss - 281m)

In the very early morning we will drive to Kvemo Okrokana village in Truso valley to start trekking tour in Kazbegi. From there we will begin hiking towards the Keli Plateau. We will climb on a steep slope and reach Keli Plateau(2700).

Day 2

Khorisari Pass

(Distance - 8 km Elevation Gain - 1061m, Elevation Loss - 752m)

In the morning we will continue our trek in Georgia which passes the volcanoes of Khorisari. We will hike to Khorisari Pass(3429m) and descend to the Kelitsadi Lake(3080m) and camp near the lake.

Day 3

Climb Esi pass - Return Back

(Distance - 11.5 km, Elevation Gain - 753m, Elevation Loss - 1681m)

After breakfast we will climb to the pass Esi pass (3435m) which lies at the altitude of 3435m and offers superb views of Kazbeg massif to the north as well as of the mountains and lake behind. Colors of the landscape are particularly striking in the late afternoon. We will continue our path to Esikomi river valley. We will reach Ketrisi village where we will have lunch and follow the road to Kvemo Okrokana village from where we will be transferred back to the hotel.
